  Weapons:
  Hokuto's main weapons are his daishō, the two swords he carries at all times at his right hip. Both swords are cased in simple wooden sheaths, coated in black lacquer, with the impression of a crow's feather carved into each near where the hilt rests. The sword handles are likewise simple, with no ornamentation beside the dull red wrappings which match those around the scabbards themselves.

  • Katana, "Ichiban" (一番) – His primary weapon, the longer of the two swords. Blade is black and emanates an evil aura when unsheathed. It is razor sharp, and the evil energy within it typically causes wounds it inflicts to necrotize very rapidly. Does not dull and will only break with the application of tremendous force (i.e. something plot-related and agreed upon beforehand).
  • Wakizashi, "Niban" (二番) – The shorter of the two swords. It is untainted by evil, and in fact has characters carved into the blade which give it a faint holy aura. Of course, this aura has been dampened over many years by its proximity to Ichiban, the greater of the two swords and the more powerful, but Hokuto keeps it as something like a balance for his tainted blade.
  • Tantō-style knife, "Samenoha" (サメの歯) - A short knife commissioned from Bartholomeus. The blade is coated in fine shark scales.

  
  Abilities

  • Swordsmanship - Even before his struggle with the demon, Kyūzō Hokuto was a gifted swordsman. He's done little but hone his skills since his fateful encounter. Combined with his natural speed and agility, he doesn't need a lot of strength to dispatch those who threaten him.
  • Hand-to-hand combat - Part of his training as a samurai was in unarmed combat. He is adept at defending himself even weaponless, with an art similar to jiujitsu (although not the same as the modern art).
  • Pyrokinesis - Even in his normal form, Hokuto can create and manipulate fire, although his abilities are enhanced when he allows his wings to manifest. For this reason, he also resists burning (although of course his clothes can burn). This is a natural elemental ability of his, and so doesn't so much require concentration as determination. Usually, he's trying to hold it back, for when he becomes angry the fire threatens to leap out from him uncontrolled.
  • Keen senses - Big ears and nose are sensitive and attentive. He often hears or smells things before he sees them, and he's very good at identifying people by scent.
  • Flight - when he allows his wings to burst forth, he can fly. Makes sense, right?

  
  Weaknesses

  • Mortality - Can be killed.
  • Water - Puts out fire.
  • Holy magic - hurts him when in demon form. Blessed items will also resist Ichiban's attacks.
